Cancer of the Lung
Jessman, Winston C.
Abstract
Cancer of the lung in the United States is a too common disease accounting for approximately 10 per, cent of all deaths and 20 per cent of the deaths from cancer among males. It is six to eight times more common in men than in women and usually occurs between the, ages of 40 and 70 years, although it has been reported in teenagers. In the Army, it is not unusual to find kin soldiers in the 30¢¥s.
There is great interest in our country at this time concerning the etiology and treatment in the hopes of improving the poor prognosis. In spite of advances in surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, the over AIl mortality rate still runs about 95 per cent in five years. Most of them die within a year after the diagnosis is made.
